Tai Chi in the Park - Parc Menai

This year throughout seniors week in Sydney, SHARE will be working with the NSW Government in offering FREE “Tai Chi in the Park” in selected locations. SHARE is a not-for-profit organisation established over 26 years ago which focuses on a range of health and exercise programs tailored for people 50 years of age and over. Tai Chi can be easy to learn and quick to deliver health benefits. The practice of Tai Chi generates a wonderful feeling of health and vitality. Tai chi is often described as "medication in motion." There is growing evidence that this practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren't in top shape or the best of health. Although tai chi is slow and gentle and doesn't leave you breathless, it addresses the key components of fitness — muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and, to a lesser degree, aerobic conditioning. SHARE will also be offering a free morning tea and a chance to mingle with fellow participants on Wednesday (Penshurst) Thursday (Menai) and Friday (Rockdale). For more information call SHARE on (02) 9533 4422 or email info@share.org.au.

Tai Chi in the Park - Penshurst Park

SHARE will be working in conjunction with Hurstville, Rockdale and Sutherland councils in offering the following locations for “Tai Chi in the Park” • Penshurst Park, Penshurst 9:30am – 10.30am Cambridge St Penshurst • Bi centennial Park Rockdale 9:30am – 10:30am • Parc Menai – 9:30am – 10:30am Cnr Allison Cres and Menai Rd SHARE will also be offering a free morning tea and a chance to mingle with fellow participants on Wednesday (Penshurst) Thursday (Menai) and Friday (Rockdale). Guided tour of Tall Ship James Craig

The Tall Ship, James Craig is the third icon of Sydney Harbour alongside the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. This magnificent ship was built, and launched, in Sunderland, England in 1874. She roamed the world's trade routes from then until she was sunk and abandoned in Recherche Bay, Tasmania in 1925. Volunteers from the Sydney Heritage Fleet refloated her in 1972 and towed her to Sydney in 1986 for a $30 million restoration. She sailed again in 2001 and is open to the public for guided tours at her berth at Wharf 7, 58 Pirrama Rd. Pyrmont. Seniors are invited to visit her during Seniors Week for a "gold coin" donation.

Keep feet healthy and strong as you age - tips and facts

This Seniors Week 2013 (Tuesday 19 March) the over 50s, elderly and carers, have a unique opportunity to get tips and facts on keeping feet healthy as we age from a podiatrist and member of the Australian Podiatry Association (NSW&ACT) with an elite sports background. The talk will provide an overview of why our feet are vulnerable as we get older, how to prevent conditions, tips on exercise, day to day foot care, what podiatrists can do to help and responses to questions. The speaker, podiatrist and Australian team athlete, Jessica Knox is passionate about improving quality of life through good foot health and is experienced treating in private practice, high risk foot clinics and nursing homes. Jessica also has a keen interest in research where she plans to focus her passion for sport and exercise with podiatry. As an elite athlete and Australian representative for the past decade, Jessica has unique and personal experience of rehabilitation and injury prevention for the foot and lower limb. Due to her detailed and in depth knowledge of biomechanics and injuries incurred by running (from blisters to stress fractures) her advice has been sought both by team mates in the Australian Athletics Team and social athletes alike. In June 2012 she was selected in the Australian 4x100m relay team for the London Olympics (however the team was eliminated from qualifying just one month before) and was a member of the Australian Institute of Sport Women’s Skeleton ice sled team (2004 - 2005). This event is supported by the City of Sydey and morning tea will be provided.

One Man, Two Guvnors

“The funniest show on the planet” Daily Mail Sydney Theatre Company and UBS Australia present A National Theatre of Great Britain production ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS By Richard Bean Based on The Servant of Two Masters by Carlo Goldoni With songs by Grant Olding 30 March-11 May It has played to packed houses on the West End and Broadway, scooped armfuls of five-star reviews and theatre awards and made thousands of theatre-goers roar with delight. Now we're bringing the National Theatre of Great Britain's hit One Man, Two Guvnors to the Sydney Theatre. Inspired by Goldoni's classic The Servant of Two Masters, this new production, written by Richard Bean and staged by the National Theatre's Director, Nicholas Hytner, is a comic masterpiece for the 21st century. Set in the seaside town of Brighton during the swinging '60s, this is the tale of a simple, sandwich-loving man, Francis Henshall, who engineers himself into the employment of two bosses at the same time. Cue a parade of shady characters, mistaken identities, tortured love triangles and very very old trainee waiters. Featuring the British cast, One Man, Two Guvnors is one-part farce, one-part slapstick, plus a liberal splash of Carry On. Join the fun! Warning! Mild saucy romping

Mrs Warren's Profession

Sydney Theatre Company presents MRS WARREN'S PROFESSION By George Bernard Shaw Vivie Warren is an optimistic young bluestocking working her way towards social independence and a successful career when she makes a discovery that rocks her world: her comfortable upbringing and expensive education were bankrolled by her mother Kitty's unorthodox profession. With his verbal mastery and devilish wit, the legendary playwright George Bernard Shaw dissects the precarious and perplexing bond between mother and daughter, as well as the thorny issues of class and privilege and the finer points of moral relativism. Although written in 1893, Mrs Warren's Profession was not given a public performance in London until 1925, having been banned for its frank discussion of a taboo topic - but also, one suspects, for its forthright challenge of the Victorian status quo regarding the right of women to pursue social and financial independence.
