Eligibility criteria
Who can apply?
The NSW Seniors Week Grants program is open to all not-for-profit and charitable organisations, public companies limited by guarantee and local government authorities based in NSW.
Workplaces or businesses that plan activities or projects that support the needs of seniors and the ageing population can also apply for a NSW Seniors Week Grant.
Who cannot apply?
The following business structures are not eligible to apply for funding under this program:
- Federal and State Government agencies;
- Individuals;
- Organisations that receive funding by ADHC through other programs.
Sponsoring bodies
The role of a sponsoring body is to:
- cover grant funded activities with Public Liability Insurance;
- accept the grant monies on behalf of the sponsored organisation;
- pay grant monies to the sponsored organisation in accordance with the grant conditions;
- provide project management assistance to the sponsored organisation; and
- ensure the required financial acquittal information is provided to ADHC after the event is held.
Important note
In all sponsored grant applications, ADHC’s primary relationship is with the sponsoring body as they are responsible for the management of the grant.
To be eligible for funding under the 2013 NSW Seniors Week Grants program, the organisation and the project must meet the following criteria:
1. NSW-based and held during NSW Seniors Week 17 March – 24 March 2013
All projects or activities must be located within NSW and must be conducted during NSW Seniors Week.
2. Target audience
Your project must be specifically targeted to the NSW seniors’ market. A senior is someone who is 60 years of age or older. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with a lifelong disability are classified as a senior if they are 50 years or older.
3. Community involvement
Your project must clearly identify and address community involvement and must be of direct benefit to the local community and be seen to address a number of the objectives outlined in point 5.
4. Acquittal of past grants
Your organisation must have returned an acquittal for any previous NSW Seniors Week Grants received from ADHC that were due for acquittal. Organisations that have not met previous acquittal requirements will not be eligible for funding.
5. Applications must contribute and show relevance to the 2013 NSW Seniors Week Grant program objectives:
-
highlights the importance of good nutrition and physical activity for the wellbeing and vitality of seniors;
-
challenges some of society’s stereotypes around ageing and demonstrates that seniors can be healthy, active and social;
-
demonstrates that seniors continue to learn and educate themselves at any age;
-
offers opportunities for seniors to develop skills in new digital trends, particularly with smart phones, iPads and tablets.
-
promotes, educates and celebrates mature workers within a workplace environment; and
-
provides intergenerational activities and contributes to relationships with people of all ages, particularly younger people.
6. Applicants must provide a detailed description of their proposed project and complete an itemised budget with their application
Applicants must provide a detailed budget for their project, not just show how the grant monies will be used
7. Applications for $1,000 must be matched by at least $1,000 from your organisation’s own resources
Your organisation must match ADHC’s grant funding with your own resources. This can include sponsorship, cash contributions or in-kind contributions such as venue hire, catering and administration costs.
Example of budget
The budget below reflects a total project value of $2,100. This demonstrates that the organisation has matched their $1,000 grant funding in accordance with the eligibility criteria and grant funding conditions. Please include the dollar value of sponsorship donations and volunteers in your budget.
In-kind value means the value of goods and services you have received but have not paid for e.g. fee waived for room hire.

What the grants do not fund
Some activities are ineligible for funding under the 2013 NSW Seniors Week Grants program. Grants will not be awarded to support the following:
- any activity of a commercial nature that is for personal profit;
- capital works i.e. building work;
- permanent salaries/wages (costs for temporary tutors for your project can be included);
- permanent equipment purchases i.e. tables, computers, buses;
- general operating expenses;
- events that encourage gambling, such as bingo, or the consumption of alcohol;
- the cost of travel to the Premier’s Seniors Week Gala Concerts;
- the same event twice i.e. two different organisations applying for funds for the same event or activity; or
- projects and activities coordinated by NSW Government Departments and Statutory Authorities.
Important note
The purpose of the NSW Seniors Week Grants program is to provide seed funding for local Seniors Week activities. You should take into account that grants are for subsidising a project, not to fund the total cost.
