One of Australia’s most reknowned 1960s pop singers will headline a special Newcastle tea dance as part of the 50th NSW Seniors Week celebrations (6-13 April).
Patricia Amphlett, famously known as Little Patti, will perform a selection of her chart-topping hits at ‘Move at Newcastle Tea Dance’ presented by AVEO – Live Well, on Sunday 13 April.
The influential singer shares the line-up with the Ozcats, a nine-piece outfit who will play jazz numbers from the 1930s and 40s. The band’s recent album (Salute The Bobcats) has received critical acclaim in the nation’s music media.
Swing Patrol will also steer the audience through its paces during dance demonstrations and Lindy Hop tutorials. To cap the experience, prizes will be given to the most convincing senior dancers.
The small admission charge includes gourmet refreshments.
The Minister for Ageing, Kristina Keneally said it was the first time this exciting tea dance had been held in Newcastle during NSW Seniors Week.
“The Newcastle tea dance offers local seniors a unique opportunity to experience live music, singing and dancing performed by some highly respected stars,” Ms Keneally said.
“This event features in the celebrations planned for Seniors Week, which has grown over 50 years to become one of the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebrations for older people and includes more than 700 festivities across the state.
“Seniors Week is an Iemma Government initiative and organised by the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC) to thank seniors for the contribution they make to their communities.”
